A Graph-Driven Heuristic and Discrete Event Simulation Approach to Layout-Dependent All-Clear Building Sweeps
Keywords:
graph-driven heuristic, discrete event simulation, all-clear building sweepAbstract
This study examines how all-clear sweeps can be planned and evaluated more efficiently during building fires. It proposes a graph-based task model that integrates heuristic generation of multiple sweep plans with discrete event simulation to evaluate multi-responder sweep execution across varying operational conditions. Experiments on two contrasting layouts show that layout shapes sweep bottlenecks. The dispersed layout benefits more from larger teams, whereas the concentrated layout benefits more from higher per-trip rescue capacity. Communication delay increases sweep time, while risk-priority routing and sensor-supported interventions improve performance. The framework provides a practical way to compare sweep strategies across different building layouts.
